Rescue, Surrender & Responsible Rehoming

We accept surrendered reptiles, amphibians, and select pocket pets when space and resources allow. Every animal is assessed individually and provided with species-appropriate care, secure housing, and a responsible path forward.

Intake & Surrender

Owners may contact Caliber when they can no longer safely or properly care for an animal. Intake is reviewed according to the animal’s needs, urgency, available space, and our ability to provide appropriate care.

Stabilization & Welfare

New arrivals receive immediate attention to husbandry, hydration, nutrition, cleanliness, temperature, humidity, security, and other environmental needs.

Individual Assessment

Each animal is evaluated based on:

  • Physical condition
  • Feeding history
  • Behaviour and temperament
  • Previous enclosure and care
  • Current husbandry requirements
  • Veterinary concerns when present

Quarantine & Temporary Housing

Animals are housed in secure, low-stress environments designed around their species and individual condition. Quarantine and biosecurity procedures are used where required.

Adoption & Placement

Animals are placed only after they are ready and an appropriate home has been identified. Potential adopters are screened for knowledge, preparation, housing, and their ability to provide responsible long-term care.

Post-Adoption Support

Adopters receive ongoing guidance to support a successful transition, correct husbandry, and continued animal welfare.

Community Coordination

We work with owners, adopters, humane organizations, keepers, and other local resources to reduce abandonment and improve outcomes for exotic animals.

Our Commitment

Some animals come to us after experiencing neglect, improper care, or unstable living conditions. Our responsibility is not simply to find them another home—it is to help ensure they are not returned to another unsafe or unsuitable situation.

Intake is not guaranteed. Space, species requirements, medical needs, and available resources must be reviewed before an animal can be accepted.

Breeder Support & Collaboration

We work with responsible local and regional breeders to strengthen feeder availability, improve animal welfare, and build dependable long-term partnerships.
