Live springtails are tiny beneficial invertebrates used as part of the clean-up crew in humid bioactive terrariums, vivariums and planted enclosures. They consume mold, fungi, biofilm and small amounts of decaying organic material, helping maintain a healthier substrate ecosystem.
Springtails reproduce when provided with consistent moisture, suitable temperatures and organic material. Add the culture directly to moist substrate, beneath leaf litter or near cork bark and other humid hiding areas. They are suitable for reptile, amphibian and invertebrate enclosures but do not replace regular enclosure maintenance.
Springtails may also provide supplemental live prey for dart frogs, newly metamorphosed amphibians and other very small insectivores. They should not be used as a complete diet.
