Black Soldier Fly Larvae are a highly nutritious feeder insect known for their naturally high calcium to phosphorus ratio, making them an excellent staple or supplemental feeder for reptiles, amphibians, and other insectivorous animals.
Their soft bodies make them easy to digest, especially for juveniles and smaller species, while still being readily accepted by adults. They are commonly fed to bearded dragons, geckos, amphibians, and birds. BSFL can be stored at cooler temperatures to slow development, or kept at room temperature where they will pupate into flies, providing additional enrichment feeding opportunities.
They require minimal care, produce very little odor when kept dry, and are a clean feeder option. Store in a cool, dry environment, ideally between 8–15°C to extend shelf life. Avoid excess moisture buildup, as this can lead to premature spoilage. Always handle with clean hands and keep containers ventilated.
Their high calcium content supports bone health and can reduce reliance on dusting compared to other feeder insects.
