Silkworms are a premium live feeder insect widely used in reptile, amphibian, and invertebrate diets due to their soft bodies, high moisture content, and excellent calcium to phosphorus ratio. They are especially beneficial for animals that require hydration support or have difficulty digesting harder-shelled feeders. Silkworms are non-aggressive, slow-moving, and easy for most reptiles to capture, making them ideal for both juvenile and adult animals.
These feeders thrive best when kept in a clean, well-ventilated container with access to mulberry-based chow. Optimal care conditions range between 22–26°C with low to moderate humidity. Avoid excess moisture buildup, as this can lead to rapid die-off. Handle gently, as silkworms are delicate and can be easily damaged. They are best used shortly after purchase to ensure maximum nutritional value.
