Crickets
LV-CRICKET

Crickets (Acheta domesticus), commonly known as house crickets, are one of the most widely used feeder insects for reptiles, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. Their natural movement helps stimulate a strong feeding response, making them a dependable feeder for many insect-eating species.

Crickets provide a good source of protein and moisture and are commonly used as a staple feeder for reptiles such as bearded dragons, leopard geckos, chameleons, monitors, tegus, and many other insectivorous animals. Their active behavior encourages natural hunting instincts and enrichment during feeding.

Feeder crickets should be offered as part of a varied diet and are commonly gut loaded prior to feeding to improve their nutritional value. Because crickets naturally contain more phosphorus than calcium, dusting with a calcium or vitamin supplement is often recommended depending on the nutritional needs of the reptile being fed.

At Caliber Exotic Supply, feeder insects are selected for activity, quality, and consistent sizing to help ensure reliable feeding responses for reptiles and other insect-eating animals.

Crickets should be stored in a well-ventilated container at room temperature. Providing egg cartons or similar structure helps increase surface area and reduces stress. Small amounts of fresh vegetables such as carrot, leafy greens, or potato can be offered for moisture and gut loading.

To help prevent crickets from escaping or hiding in the enclosure, they can be offered using feeding tongs or placed in a smooth-sided feeding dish when appropriate.
