Frozen African Soft Fur Rats (ASF) are an excellent whole prey feeder for a wide range of reptiles.
ASF are a natural prey item for many snakes and are known for producing a strong feeding response. Many reptiles that hesitate to eat traditional feeder rodents will readily accept ASF. As a whole prey feeder, they provide complete nutrition including muscle, bone, and organs in a single food source.
Selecting the appropriate prey size based on the width of your reptile’s body helps ensure safe and successful feeding and supports healthy digestion.
Our frozen ASF rats are humanely raised specifically for reptile nutrition, then vacuum sealed and frozen to preserve freshness, cleanliness, and nutritional value. Vacuum sealing helps maintain feeder quality while allowing convenient long term storage.
At Caliber Exotic Supply, we focus on dependable feeder quality, consistent sizing, and animals raised specifically to support proper reptile nutrition.
Recommended Thawing Process
-
Remove the feeder from the freezer.
-
Place the vacuum sealed package in a bowl inside a sink.
-
Fill the bowl with hot tap water.
-
Cycle the water as needed until the feeder is fully thawed and warmed to the desired feeding temperature.
-
Cut open the vacuum package.
-
Use feeding tongs to offer the prey.
We recommend not handling prey with bare hands, as this can transfer human scent and potentially create scent confusion during feeding.
If the prey is accepted, allow the snake to ingest normally.
If the prey is not accepted and there are no other animals available to offer it to, the thawed feeder must be discarded. Frozen feeders cannot be refrozen once thawed.
Frozen feeders should be kept in a freezer until ready for use.
